This Year's Recipients

Lily Beck - Scholarship Recipient

My name is Lily Beck. I am from Manahawkin New Jersey, and I am 17 years old. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, going to the gym, baking, and playing softball.  I am currently a senior at Southern Regional High school and looking forward to attending college next year at Montclair State University.

Jenesis Bannarbie - Scholarship Recipient

Jenesis E. Bannarbie is the oldest child and only daughter of United States Navy veterans

QuaWanna and Tyrone Bannarbie. She was born and raised in Suffolk, Virginia, where she

graduated with honors from Nansemond River High School in JUN 2024. Upon graduation, she

was accepted and enrolled as a freshman in the Virginia Tech Corp of Cadets (VTCC), where she

receives military training with the VTCC Navy ROTC Program. She is a second semester

student majoring in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) at Virginia Tech. During the Fall

2024 semester, she was a physics student and made the dean's list. She has always loved science.

She intends to combine the PPE program with a behavioral science study of psychology. In the

future, she hopes to make changes in policies that affect middle-class families and children’s

education. Jenesis is passionate about service. She uses her creativity and leadership to volunteer

on the medical staff, Conrad Calvary, military ball, and to help with parking at Virginia Tech

football games, among other ways she gives her time and skills to the university. Her hobbies

include reading, writing, watching TV/anime, playing games with her brothers, and sports. She is

a gifted writer and an award-winning essayist and poet with the National Beta Club. She enjoys

learning about the world around her while traveling and experiencing new adventures in new

places. She believes her strengths are her charisma, empathy, self-awareness, intelligence, and

composure. She is always striving for self-improvement, and that is how she manages any

challenges that come her way. She doesn’t see her Type 1 diabetes diagnosis as a limitation. T1D

challenges her to show up as an overcomer every day.
